Capitol Connections is the one day each year when AIA Washington Council invites all AIA members in the state to visit Olympia to meet with our state legislators to discuss the common interests architects have that impact the practice of architecture or the community at large. This year’s event is on Thursday, January 24 starting at 8:30 a.m. in rooms A, B, and C of the Cherberg Building, 304 15th Avenue SW, Olympia. Transportation costs for all AIA members will be reimbursed following submittal of the requisite Expense Report form.
The meeting will start with a briefing on the issues facing the profession in the upcoming session and on How to Talk to a Legislator. Both of these sessions will be repeated later in the morning as they expect not everyone will be able to make it to Olympia at 8:30. Also scheduled are speakers to talk about upcoming efforts to reduce risks for developers, builders, and design professionals in the design and construction of condominiums.
Meetings with legislators will be scheduled throughout the day so you may miss a session to meet with one of your legislators. The council scheduler will attempt to schedule the meetings with your legislator, but sometimes, due to the legislators obligations, you may be meeting with staff.
IF YOU WANT A CHANCE TO MEET WITH YOUR LEGISLATOR RATHER THAN STAFF, IT IS IMPORTANT TO REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Legislative staff prioritizes appointments based on when a request is received. It is highly recommended that you register as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Cost for the event is $45 and is payable upon registration. Lunch and continental breakfast are included.
